This is a new addition to the website where you will be able to add your comments and ask questions about dressmaking or corset making.
I’ve added this largely due to the huge support that I’ve had with the workshops and the dressmaking course that I led last year at Countess Wear Village Hall so this will all be Gill’s fault of course!
The tutoring only came about in 2006, I had been advertising my bridal wear business in the Guide for the Bride Exeter edition for longer than is healthy to remember and Gill who is the publisher and editor of the magazine and a good friend, asked me if I had ever thought about teaching dressmaking and at that point I really hadn’t so after a little thought I said that I’d give it a try and see how we got on.
After helping to man the Countess Wear stand at the Creative Stitches 2006 show at Westpoint, the show organisers invited me to have my own stand at the 2007 show as apparently dressmakers are a bit ”thin on the ground” at the Exeter show so we hoped to raise the dressmaking profile a bit and book as many people onto the workshops as possible. The hall also had a stand at the 2007 Craft 4 Crafters show at Westpoint which helped with bookings for the early part of last year and we’ll be doing the same again this year.
I am now twelve workshops and one term of a weekly course down the line with more to come for the approaching Spring term and I’m hoping that dressmaking is ”on the up” again!
